![]() ![]() ![]() I'm sure a lot of people glossed over the neck-snapping scene as "yeah, yeah. For me, that made her sacrifice much more meaningful than if she was throwing her life away for some dude she met a few days ago. Instead, she knew Crane had the best chance of standing up to Rais and the GRE, and gave herself up for that chance. She may have developed some affection for him, but love? Nah. ![]() She didn't sacrifice herself because she was in love with Crane. This especially comes into play with her death. If Crane had told her about Rais' arena offer, I have no doubt she would have taken him up on it. That's a really big part of her character, which is key because I think if she wanted to, she could have taken over leadership of the Tower (especially after Brecken's injury), but instead she knows people are happy to follow Brecken, and I suspect she believes she'd be more useful as a runner. She's not following orders from some organization, she's doing whatever she can to help. She's not blindly following some cause she's desperately trying to save lives. She's not a robot about it, though (a lot of devs seem to think tough chicks who aren't focused on looking for love are basically mannequins and write them to be just as wooden), so the fact that she's able to show passion for her mission and the people she cares about makes her scenes very satisfying. She's focused on saving Harran, and sees Crane as a useful means to that end. Jade on the other hand, while she might be growing fond of Crane for what he ends up trying to do for Harran, doesn't spend her time fawning over him like some wide-eyed anime chick always on the prowl for someone to complete her. I'm sure a lot of that is based on the guilt of what he's doing in Harran, but I'm guessing on a normal day he'd take a shot at asking her out to dinner and a movie. Crane seems to latch onto people like a baby duckling trying to find its new mommy (how was Rahim his best friend after only a couple of days? The friendship development in Stepbrothers made more sense), and seeing as how Jade happens to be there, obviously capable, focused, and (let's face it) easy on the eyes, it's not too surprising that he becomes infatuated with her. Definitely a strong, independent woman who don't need no man. She's seen and done some shit, but while she doesn't let that take away her humanity, she's also not overly emotional about it. Even when she's dealing with the oncoming infection, she manages to take out several of Rais' men in a few seconds, barehanded. She's been running since the Tower formed, which means she's been surviving the infected and Rais' goons for a good while. She's a world-class kickboxer with free-running training from Brecken, and she can obviously take care of herself. She does so by kicking the shit out of infected, then dragging a disoriented Crane to safety after watching someone she actually cared about get treated like Gazi's mamma's famous Cinna-crust Blueberry Special at the annual Harran Days pie-eating contest. She's one of two people who saves Crane when he drops from the sky and gets bitten. Let's look at a few traits about Jade here, because in my opinion, Jade deserves quite a lot of respect (or rather, the writers behind her character do) for her part in the story: I thought that was weird, since she's the moral center for the story for the main game, but there were some comments that picked apart one or two aspects of her character as proof that she isn't one of the best written/developed non-lead female characters in modern video games. I was reading some threads and noticed that there's actually some hate for Jade in the community. Tl dr - Saw some smack talk about Jade in a couple of threads, so I over-analyze why, in my opinion, she's one of the best written/developed female main characters in video games, so shut up.
